CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Bayek of Siwa
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Canonpoint: after the death of Cesare
Character Age: 41
Appearance: unchanged
Background/History: Wiki! (CW: mention of the murder of children)
Strengths:
Dutiful Bayek is a man of honor, and he takes his various roles in the world with deep seriousness.
As a Medjay, and later a Hidden One, he travels Egypt and protects the citizens of his homeland in a similar capacity to a police officer. His job consists of all manner of tasks; clearing out hideouts of grave robbers and bandits, investigating missing persons, taking part in religious ceremonies, rescuing captives and many (many) more.
He was also a devoted father and husband, enjoying teaching Khemu and other children of Siwa about the world around them. As a husband he was highly devoted to Aya, to the point of turning down an offer from Cleopatra herself.
Protective At heart, Bayek is a guardian and protector towards the world around him. Whether they be people, places or even animals, his first instinct is always to help those around him. This is in part due to his heritage and training as a Medjay as well as his innate nature, half the reason he gets in to as many situations as he does is his quick willingness to jump in to defend the weak or see justice delivered for those who have been wronged. While not likely to happen in the setting, this is especially evident when he encounters younger children and generally goes out of his way to ensure that they're safe from whatever troubble they've come across.
Another prime example of this is Bayek's founding of the Hidden Ones (to eventually become the Assassin Brotherhood in later centuries), meant to protect the common citizens from the machinations of those who would seek to control them for their own benefit.
Empathy An extension of his protective nature, Bayek is generally kind and compassionate towards those around him who are having a difficult time. He knows first hand the pain and grief of losing loved ones either to death or circumstance as well as the difficulties of being caught between two cultures. This often lets him find common ground with people and allows him to occasionally defuse tense situations more readily.
Weaknesses:
Vengeful Bayek is almost terrifyingly willing to exact vengeance on those who have wronged either him or those he cares about. The very beginnings of the Hidden Ones are begun when the Order of Anchients kill his son, to the point that Bayek has the names of those responsible tattooed in to his arm as a list of people to kill and spent the better part of two years hunting them across all of Egypt. Vengeance and justice are intertwined in Bayek's life, two sides of the same coin that he does not necessarily balance when it comes to personal matters.
Ruthless Despite his generally friendly nature, Bayek is incredibly ruthless when it comes to dealing with his foes. He firmly believes that sending someone to the afterlife for judgement of their soul is a reasonable way of dealing with an enemy. He mentions to Aya when they reunite that he takes pleasure in ending the lives of those responsible for Khemu's death.
There are two prime examples of this. First with The Crocodile, a woman named Berenike who ruled over the Fayum area, and killed a child and with The Scarab, a man named Taharqa who was rebuilding the city of Letopolis. After Berenike drowns a child, Shadya, in order to intimidate the girl's parents in to obedience (by tying rocks to the girl's ankles and throwing her in the Nile), Bayek unflinchingly uses a childhood friend as a way of gaining information and access to two of the Gladiators involved. After finding out the identity of Berenike, Bayek kills both her and his friend who had allied with The Crocodile. He vows to destroy everything Berenike built as he kills her, as well as that the woman will remember Shadya's name. In dealing with The Scarab, Bayek kills the man after finding out about all the good he has done as well as the family Taharqa will leave behind.
Uncompromising Bayek is unwilling to change his identity or his ideals in order to appease others. This mostly manifest as his refusal to stop believing in the Egyptian gods even as the Greek and Roman religions overtake Egypt. While he fully recognizes them as Gods, they are not his Gods. This often leads to friction between him and those who have converted as well as a general opinion of non-Egyptians that he is exceedingly old fashioned.
Another example of this is his fight with The Hyena, a woman named Khaliset. While he empathized deeply with the grieving mother seeking to bring her daughter back to life, Bayek did not waver in his decision to end her life and send her on to the afterlilfe.
He also willingly abandons his title as Medjay in order to create the Hidden Ones and better fight for the ideals of freedom.
Fatal Flaw: Idealist Bayek is, at his heart, an idealist who generally wants to see and believe the best in people. While this does not necessarily make him naive to manipuation, it makes him susceptible to being tricked in to trusting people that mean him harm. He still sees the world as a good place, and people as ultimately good beings.
Driving Force: Justice Bayek seeks justice for the wrongs done to both himself and those around him. Whether it be by righting minor wrongs of theft or by killing those responsible for bringing harm to others, it is all done in the name of justice. He wants to be the protector and guide to those around him that he was unable to be for others.
Patron: Juno Bayek is a parent and spouse, and while he can be far more forgiving than Juno, most of his strengths and flaws fall most under hers.
GAME INFORMATION
Setting Suitability: This doesn't need to be expansive, but we do what to see why you're apping, *why your character would consent to the Gods' call*, if you have any larger plans within the game, how your character fits into this setting dealing with fighting war in a foreign time/land, and if your character has the mental maturity of an 18+ game. (Mods reserve the right to decline an app based on character suitability.)
Sample: We require a single, setting-based example which should be threaded out like you would a log (either [bracketed] or prose format is fine). You can utilize test-drive memes for this (or you can provide a uniquely written 200w.+ sample, though we prefer to see threaded samples). In either case, we want to see your character in the game setting, and we want to see the outlined personality reflected.
